Australian businesses swept away by new commercial cleaning service
Helpling launches on-demand commercial cleaning throughout NSW and Victoria
10 SEPTEMBER 2015
July, 2015 – Helpling, pioneers of on-demand cleaning, today launched a commercial cleaning service to take on the $8 billion cleaning market in Australia. Available in Sydney and Melbourne, the new service aims to reduce the cost and complexities associated with commercial cleaning, making it easier to book an accredited cleaner anytime, with no fixed contracts, all from your smartphone or desktop.
The launch signals the beginning of a new trend in Australian e-commerce - that of the on-demand services boom, which has taken off in the US and Europe and has now made its way to Australia’s shores. As the booking of cleaners moves online, web-based platforms are expected to supersede the traditional offline market.
“Booking a cleaner should be as easy as booking a flight or taxi, yet commercial cleaning in Australia is unnecessarily expensive, with many companies asking a huge commitment for sign-on,” said Helpling Australia Managing Director Bevan Nel. “’Our mission is to make cleaning services conveniently accessible to Australian businesses.’’
According to IBISWorld, 27,500 businesses are using commercial cleaning services in Australia, with New South Wales and Victoria businesses accounting for 61.1% of total market revenue. The industry is also expected to grow at 1.8% per annum to which Helpling plans to capture a strong share of the market.
The startup sector in particular has been a strong market for Helpling. “In addition to larger companies, startups have welcomed the fact that Helping does not lock them into tedious contracts and enjoy the convenience factor of booking cleaners via an app. Business owners can test the service without having to commit to a contract, giving them the flexibility in case their circumstances change,” said Nel.
The introduction of commercial cleaning has also been welcomed by Helpling’s cleaners who are taking advantage of the opportunity for more work. Helpling cleaners are independent contractors who can pick and choose their own hours and be in control of their own income. All Helpling employees have:
- Public liability insurance covering commercial cleaning
- A clean police record
- An Australian Business Number
- Proven cleaning experience
Top performing Helpling cleaners earn over $1,000 a week - well above market rate.
“The commercial cleaning market in Australia is ripe for disruption. Helpling has a proven model that has been successfully replicated in 14 countries, servicing tens of thousands of customers daily. Our goal is to become the industry leader in Australia for on-demand commercial cleaning services and judging by the feedback and initial uptake by businesses here, we feel very confident,” said Nel.
Helpling is the leading online marketplace for home services outside the U.S. On the website or via app, customers can book a vetted and insured cleaner and gain back free time within a couple of clicks. For self-employed cleaners, the online service makes it easier than ever to access new clients and to manage when and where they want to work. As the first marketplace in Europe, Helpling mediates various household services from a single source, e.g. window cleaning, furniture assembly or painting work.
Helpling was founded by Benedikt Franke, Philip Huffmann and Rocket Internet in January 2014. Since then the company has raised 56.5 million Euros from investors such as Mangrove Capital Partners, Phenomen Ventures, Point Nine Capital, Lukasz Gadowski, Lakestar and Kite Ventures. Helpling is active in 9 countries in 3 continents: Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Singapore, UAE and UK.
